In this 2-hour hand-sewing workshop, you’ll explore and learn the repair of well-worn garments inspired by Japanese Sashiko and a series of darning techniques.
You’ll be introduced to:
Sashiko, a technique to reinforce and patch fabric using a running stitch to create geometrical patterns
Classic darning and Scotch stitch to repair holes in woven garments
Basic hand-sewing techniques such as knots, sewing stitches, and choice of thread
Ways of observing and understanding the damage of a garment to start the repair in time
SPECIAL WORKSHOP: On Friday 18th of JULY, join me in the beautiful outdoor space at Trowbridge Gardens for some inspiring visible mending surrounded by nature

Please bring along any damaged items that you would like to discuss and work on throughout the session. Darning materials will be provided along with some refreshments and a calming cup of tea. Simply come as you are with what you like to bring, and together, we dip into the art of slow making.

All you need to repair your clothes! Practical sewing kits for darning and Japanese Sashiko stitching to simply add to your home sewing utensils, or take on travels. Each kit comes in a cotton string bag with a small booklet for sketching, writing and journaling. Your chosen repair kit will be ready for you on the day of the Sewing Circle session.
